Meet the vets

Two vets — one small animal, one large.

Between them, Órla and Tom cover nearly everything Leitrim brings through the door or out into the yard. If something is outside what we do, we’ll tell you plainly and point you to a vet we trust.

Órla Redmond

Principal · small animal
MVB · UCD 2014 · VCI-R-4821

Grew up just outside Carrick-on-Shannon. Spent five years in a busy Dublin-suburb practice before moving home to open Main Street Vets in 2019. Special interest in small-animal dentistry and soft-tissue surgery. Órla takes most of the routine small-animal consults and does all of the surgical work at the practice.

Grew up on a suckler-beef farm in north Leitrim. Does all of our TB testing, herd health plans, calving assistance and sheep work, and covers the horses that we take on. Tom lives 10 minutes from the practice, which matters at 3am on a calving.

Farm call-out

Leitrim is a farming county.
We work like one.

Tom runs farm call-outs across Leitrim and the near end of Roscommon. The truck carries standard drug ranges so most visits are one-trip, and we try to route calls in the same parish on the same morning to keep mileage fair.

  • DAFM-approved for herd-test TB testing
  • Calving assistance — 24/7 via the emergency phone
  • Sheep lameness & footbathing advice on-yard
  • Herd health plans & routine fluke/worming scheduling
  • Standard antibiotics, anti-inflammatories and calcium on the truck
After-hours & emergencies

We share the rota — so the phone is always live.

Two vets can’t cover a county on their own, and we’d rather be honest about that than pretend. Outside practice hours we share a 24-hour emergency rota with two other VCI-registered practices — one in Sligo and one in Roscommon — so there is always a real vet on call for our clients.

Mon — Thu evenings Main Street / Sligo rota
Fri — Sun, public holidays Roscommon rota shared

Emergency call-out fee €150
Treatment on top, quoted on scene

Home visits · end-of-life

When the time comes, we prefer to travel to them.

A vet’s waiting room is the wrong last room. If you’d rather your pet’s last hour be in their own bed, by the fire, with you on the floor beside them — we’ll come to you. Appointments are booked quietly and can usually be made within 24–48 hours.

We carry everything we need for a calm sedation first, then the procedure. Cremation is arranged on your behalf with Pet Haven Crematorium in Sligo — group or private, your choice.

Home visit within 20 km €120
Procedure (sedation + euthanasia) from €95
Group cremation arranged via Pet Haven
Private cremation from €220

Beyond 20 km we add €1.50 / km. We’ll stay as long as you need — there is no rushed clock on this visit.
